What we know

Two growers, one kiln

In 1922 Henry Freeman and William Pelton grew a trial crop of five acres near Lynedoch. In 1923 they bought the old Chrysler farm there and harvested 30 acres, which the federal history of the Harrow research station calls the first commercial crop of the new belt.S2

A crop needs a kiln. The Multicultural History Society of Ontario records a kiln that Freeman and Pelton built that same year, 1923, on their experimental farm at Lynedoch.S22

What we don’t know is what happened to it. Kilns across the belt have been taken down, moved or put to new uses. Until someone confirms it, this record stays marked unknown.
